E:3 Slay the Style Game: Helping Seniors Pick the Perfect Outfits for Their Session

Choosing the right outfit for a senior session can feel overwhelming—for both the senior and the photographer. Parents want timeless, seniors want trendy, and you’re stuck in the middle trying to balance it all. But fear not! With a little guidance, you can help your clients select outfits that not only look amazing but also make them feel confident in front of the camera.

In this blog, we’re breaking down how to create the perfect senior session wardrobe—one that keeps parents happy and lets seniors shine!

1. Keep It Simple & Comfortable

The biggest mistake seniors make? Overthinking their outfits! Remind them that simple, well-fitted clothing often photographs best. Ask them: What outfit makes you feel amazing? Start there and build a look that reflects their personality. If they don’t feel comfortable, it will show in their photos.

2. The 3-Look Formula for Senior Sessions

To create variety in the gallery, encourage seniors to bring:
Casual: Think jeans and a cute top, a cozy sweater, or shorts for a relaxed vibe.
Statement Piece: Something bold that screams this is me!—a trendy dress, a cool jacket, or a unique outfit that highlights their personality.
Timeless: A classic look that parents will love, such as a flowy dress, a button-up shirt, or a well-tailored outfit.

Bonus tip: Make sure their shoes match the outfit and are comfortable enough for walking between locations!

3. Color is Queen

One of the most common questions parents ask: What colors look good on camera?
🎨 Go for: Neutral tones, earthy hues, or soft pastels.
🚫 Avoid: Neon colors, busy patterns, and overly trendy pieces that might date the photos.
📍 Match the location: Jewel tones for urban settings, soft colors for nature sessions, and classic combos for timeless portraits.

4. Props & Accessories Make a Difference

Accessories add dimension and give seniors something to do with their hands. Think hats, sunglasses, jackets, scarves, or meaningful props like books, instruments, or sports gear.

5. Outfit Previews = Stress-Free Sessions

Encourage seniors to text you photos of their outfit choices before the session. This helps you plan, offer advice, and ensure their wardrobe complements the location.
